POWERful Choices! Initiative

What is POWERful Choices?

POWERful Choices! is a community-wide effort to install a strong local conservation ethic while demonstrating the effectiveness of energy efficiency, conservation and renewable resource development.

How does POWERful Choices! work?

First, we looked within to see how we could “lead by example”. RFMU has been aggressive and successful in that regard not only in the community, but also as recognized leaders in the WPPI, Wisconsin and the nation. As a community owned and operated utility we looked for ways to help our customers save money on their utility bills. We created programs for all customer classes (hyperlink the classes below to energy efficiency and educational programs)
  • Residential
  • Business
  • Industrial
  • Non-profit
  • Schools

How are we doing?

Since 2007 we have saved;
  • Residential
  • 33.8 million kilowatt hours
  • $2.7 million on customer electric bills
  • $2.3 million reduction of wholesale purchased power costs
  • Over $ in incentives from Focus on Energy has been returned to River Falls customers

Community Input - POWERful Choices! Committee

Ok, so that’s a little confusing, but we’re keeping the name. If you have ideas of how we can move River Falls towards a more sustainable future, you’re welcome to attend.

How can I get involved?

The demand for energy continues to grow in Wisconsin and our nation. To protect our environment and quality of life, energy efficiency and environmental stewardship must receive increasing importance. A confluence of events in River Falls offers a unique opportunity to showcase the outstanding efforts of its community leaders and residents.

During the spring of 2007, the City of River Falls City Council and Utility Commission approved the support of a "Leading By Example” initiative as presented by our power supplier, WPPI Energy. This initiative is a community-wide effort to install a strong local conservation ethic while demonstrating the effectiveness of energy efficiency, conservation and renewable resource development.

During the fall of 2012, a comprehensive review of the initiative’s first five years was compiled and can be downloaded here.
