On April 29, 2008, River Falls Municipal Utilities (RFMU) is launching a campaign to educate its residential customers about the value of energy efficiency and ways the community-owned utility can help residents save energy and money while protecting the environment. The new educational initiative is part of RFMU’s POWERful Choices! community-wide sustainability project. Utility customers will receive an educational booklet in the mail identifying practical strategies for saving energy in the home. From purchasing renewable energy to switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs, the booklet highlights several ways home energy users can save money and reduce consumption. The utility hopes the new campaign will boost energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, promote broad energy awareness and conservation, and advance renewable energy. “Our utility is dedicated to making efforts that enhance energy efficiency, as we continually strive to make a difference in the River Falls community,” RFMU General Manager Carl Gaulke said. “This campaign is an excellent way to increase community awareness, and our customers can choose to do their part by making energy conservation a priority in their homes.” The booklet also features a pledge where community members are encouraged to personally commit to make smart resource decisions in the home. By pledging to take control of personal energy use and being more conscious about daily energy decisions, residents can work together to create a community-wide conservation ethic. And, by submitting the pledge, residents can show support for the overall movement toward sustainability in River Falls. Those interested in choosing to make a difference can bring completed pledges to the “Spring Into Action” event at River Falls High School on Tuesday, April 29 from 4-7 p.m. The event is part of the high school’s Earth Week celebration, and participants submitting a pledge will receive a window cling recognizing their commitment. Pledges can also be returned to RFMU at 125 E. Elm Street, River Falls WI 54022. Each pledge contributes to the preservation of limited resources, so sign up today to support a greener environment through the “POWERful Choices!” campaign. |
