Monitoring Sites

Monitoring Site Requirements

The team established six monitoring sites within the North Kinnickinnic River Monitoring Project Area. The sites were selected based upon:

  • Their upstream or downstream relationship to the development being studied
  • Ease of access due to public property or easements
  • Flow characteristics of the site

Flow Characteristics

Sites are determined partly on their flow characteristics, they must be appropriate for the type of sampling needed. For example, good mixing is critical for accurate temperature monitoring. Where possible, the monitor was placed in, or immediately below, a section of the river that had good riffles for the mixing of the water.
