Identity Protection Guarantee
Crime Stoppers guarantees that its procedures protect the identity of the tipster from law enforcement or anyone else, and may pay up to $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest or charging in a case.
History of River Falls' Involvement
On September 11, 2009, the River Falls Police Department announced that it had joined with Crime Stoppers of Minnesota to increase the ways that citizens can pass on anonymous tips about crimes. In addition to staying anonymous, persons giving tips may be eligible to collect up to $1,000 in reward.
Positive Returns of the Program
The additional ways that citizens can turn in tips may save thousands of dollars of investigators' time. Tips may be turned in at a toll free phone number, online, or through text messaging, all supplied and maintained by Crime Stoppers of Minnesota.
Through this partnership, the River Falls Police Department receives tips that Crime Stoppers collects through its technology and by the increased publicizing of crimes needing additional information to be solved. The Police Department has a hot link on its website as one means to collect tips, and includes Crime Stoppers contact information when discussing or publicizing cases and the need for information.
Program Organization
Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is a nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors who oversee the operations and fundraising efforts for tax deductible contributions. It has been in place in Minnesota since 1979, and was the nation’s second such program to be formed. Today there are over 1,300 Crime Stoppers programs around the world.
