The Swinging Bridge is celebrating its 100th anniversary! As a way to honor the pivotal role that the bridge has played in the River Falls community for a century, the City of River Falls' Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is collecting photos of the bridge through the years.

You are encouraged to upload any images you have of the bridge, whether it's a graduation photo, wedding photos, family days out, or just of the bridge itself. The HPC will assemble these photos to tell the story of the bridge at the upcoming Swinging Bridge 100 Year Celebration on May 9 at the Glen Park Pavillion between 2 and 5 p.m. Please use the link below to upload any images you want showcased as we honor the bridge and the role it's played in our city for the past century: https://forms.gle/VzQkAQwNJbV3Zasr9

Camping is open April 15 until October 15 each year. (Water and dump station may open later or close earlier due to the weather.) There are 15 RV sites (electric hook-up only; up to about 43') and 5 tent sites on the grass (no electricity). Bathrooms, shower room, water to fill tanks, and dump station are available. Customers may check with camp host or contact the rec office for shower code. Sorry, campfires/fire pits are not provided or permitted.

River Falls Municipal Utilities has once again received national recognition from the Department of Energy National Laboratory of the Rockies, the formerly named National Renewable Energy Laboratory. 

RFMU ranked second among utilities in the top 10 of the Utility Green Pricing Participation Rate with more than 18% in 2024. The utility is also ranked fourth in the top 10 of the Utility Green Pricing Sales Rate with nearly 10%. 

The utility has consistently ranked in the top 10 for nearly a decade. The rankings were released Feb. 3.

“It’s exciting to have River Falls’ residents and businesses continue to be invested in a zero-carbon future,” said Kevin Westhuis, utility director of RFMU. “They are receiving much deserved national attention for their commitment to renewable energy. I hope we can continue to lead the way.”  

NLR’s list for the participation rates measures the percentage of customers who participate in a utility’s programs. The sales rate ranks utilities by the same categories.

One of the utility’s most popular offerings, Choose Renewable, helped the community obtain this recognition. The program allows customers to sign up to increase their monthly bill by a few dollars, ensuring their space is powered by renewable energy such as solar, wind and biogas. A typical home can run on clean energy with the purchase of two to three blocks, with one 300 kilowatt-hour block at a cost of $2 per month.

River Falls Municipal Utilities (RFMU) has complied the 2024 Annual Water Quality Report and we are pleased to report that our water quality is safe and meets and or exceeds state and federal standards.

River Falls Municipal Utilities (RFMU) has received national recognition from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2024. This recognition comes from a trade group that represents more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities.

When 2024 outages occurred, RFMU customers experienced an average outage time of 13.08 minutes while all U.S. electric utilities averaged an outage time of 149 minutes. We are proud to be locally owned and recognized by APPA for our excellence in electric reliability.
