Why Natives?
Native plants are critical for our local wildlife, especially our birds and pollinators. Additionally, there are many other advantages to planting native. Native plants are better adapted to their local climate making them more drought tolerant, hardy, and low maintenance. Many have beautiful and unique flowers. Native plants are often used in natural area installations but many of these plants are also well suited for traditional landscaping too. They can be used in natural areas, stormwater features like bioswales, or traditional landscaping. Their deep roots help manage stormwater, reduce erosion, and improve soil health.
The City of River Falls is committed to promoting native plant use throughout our community. We incorporate natives into restoration projects, rain gardens, public landscaping, and pollinator gardens. We hope you will consider planting native too!
